Branding: Blue Ox Goods
Blue Ox Goods is a homemade personilized blanket company. With the handmade goods markets drenched with hand-drawn fonts and retro-inspired typography, this clean yet playful identity makes the brand stand out amongst the crowd. Since there was a clear vision in place before the design process began, the workflow was streamlined. So I have chosen this project as an oppurtunity to go "behind the scenes" to discuss a bit about how I work.
After the initial sketch phase, I bring the different concepts that I have chosen as the most successful to a rough finish in black and white (usually 4-6 logos will make the cut). This stage, highlighted in the gallery, is the first round that goes to the client. Once they choose a direction and provides feedback, I am able to finalize the black and white version and proceed to color. Once that is set the final logo is sent for final approval in versions. After it's approved I am able to provide the client all applicable formats (for print and digital use) of the final identity. With a name like Blue Ox Goods, it was fairly obvious what color I would be working with and together we chose a blue that would work for the brands needs. At that point the identity portion was complete.
Since the brand is a homemade company, the packaging and promotion needed to be sensitive to that and had to be able to be produced on a more intimate scale . Because the clean style of the identity enabled it to be translated to a stamp easily, this was used along with hand-torn craft paper to create the packaging. The tags that attach to the blankets double as business cards so that the client was able to do "double duty" with a singe asset.
